"When The President Talks To God" is a total mockery of President Bush saying that he bases his decisions on God. More like a conversation than a song, Bright Eyes gets his ideas across by posing a bunch of questions to the listener about Bush's conversations with God. The manner of the questions make it crystal clear that Bright Eyes detests Bush. This is apparent from just looking at the first verse.:
"When the president talks to God
Are the conversations brief or long?
Does he ask to rape our women’s' rights
And send poor farm kids off to die?
Does God suggest an oil hike,
When the president talks to God?"
Other issues raised include voter fraud, poverty, increasing prisons, drugs, along with a few others.
